With Heart and Hand: Voices of WW1
UTV marks the 50th Anniversary of The Somme
With Heart and Hand was a UTV programme made in 1966 to commemorate the Battle of the Somme. For the programme, UTV recorded interviews with veterans who recalled their experiences in that battle, and throughout WW1. Through these, Sir Norman Stronge, General Sir James Steele, and other voices create a vivid impression of World War One.
The footage also captures poignant stories from the home
front during that time and includes a range of archive sources that had been
gathered to tell the story on the 50th anniversary of the battle.
An incomplete version of the programme With Heart and Hand: Battle of the Somme is included in this collection, while the sub-collection holds addtional interview rushes and material relating to The Somme, WW1, and the events in Dublin during the Easter Rising.
