Description

Workers escaped serious injury when this Australian ship, the Araiuen, broke in half in Thompson’s Dock in Belfast. The ship was being lengthened at the dock. These dramatic shots show the enormous damage caused by half of the boat keeling over. Robin Walsh talks to one of the workers, Mr Cordner about the event. Another worker tells of how a man fell into the water and others jumped in to help.
