A hairdressing competition is underway in the Astor Ballroom. Lots of teasing and back-combing going on and the resulting hair creations are amazing. The barbers also get a look-in and there are some excellent quiffs and unusual hair-drying techniques.  

The winner in the women’s category was Robin Rodgers, who worked at Frederick’s in Belfast.
