Description

This photo from the Green Collection at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum shows how turf was transported. The slide-car was probably in use before the invention of the wheel, but in Ulster it survived into the 20th century in both the Sperrin Mountains and the Glens of Antrim. It was ideally suited to the rough tracks of these upland areas. This slide-car was fitted with a creel to transport turf from the upland bogs to the farms below.
