Description

Experience 1963 from the perspective of the McDowell family. Covering a full calendar year, the clips begin with magical skating and sledding on a frozen lake, showing the aftermath of the ‘big freeze-up’ in February when Belfast Corporation took down the railings along the Ormeau Embankment in order to dump snow into the Lagan.

More everyday chores take over in March and April, painting and sawing logs. A trip to Barry’s and a 6th birthday bring more fun and frolics. Spring cleaning in May means beating carpets in the back garden but a father and son trip to the Copeland Bird Observatory is a real treat.

Hosepipes help ease the heat in June, where a 4th birthday occurs. In July the whole family returns to the Copeland Islands and another family birthday. September brings school -for one of the family, her first day - but there is still time for Sunday walks at Pickie in Bangor, with wonderful handknitted Arran sweaters. By December the snow is falling once again and the children play on sleighs in Ormeau, Belfast.
