The McDowells then hit the road for their honeymoon in Donegal, capturing beautiful footage of Dunfanaghy and the Derryveagh Mountains. Dr McDowell's eye for detail and natural filmmaking talent helped capture countless fascinating moments. Footage such as the wedding photographer setting up his camera, Donegal fishermen sneaking a drink on their boat and candid moments on the beach offer a glimpse of life in Ulster in the 1950s. Some of this footage must have been shot by Vera, who clearly had an acute eye for beautiful imagery too. Throughout the McDowell films, Vera and Frank took turns operating the camera.
