Tom King, secretary of state for Northern Ireland, speaks
to reporters for Good Evening Ulster on the possibility of a summit between the
United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland to forge an agreement on the future
of Northern Ireland.
There is also a
report from the SDLP party conference, where deputy leader Seamus Mallon speaks
on the importance of not setting aside the aspiration of a United Ireland for
the sake of signing a common ground agreement. Party leader John Hume, however,
feels that success in the talks should be measured by any healing they brought
to society. He is also vociferous on the platform in speaking out against
republicanism and Sinn Fein.
