The success of hit movies such as "Convoy" and "Smokey and the Bandit" in the late 1970s introduced the craze of CB radio, popular with the truck-driving heroes of those films, to the UK. It was more of a home-based pastime on these shores with less road space and a lot less monster trucks. However, it briefly became a hobby with a degree of edge to it due to the fact that it was illegal to operate CB radio in the UK. 

This episode of Counterpoint from 1980 examined the phenomenon at its height, speaking to those who had invested in the kit and were in danger of falling foul of the law. Of course, the CB craze disappeared almost overnight when it was eventually legalised, but this study captures it went it still retained its cache of street cred.
