Description

A 1985 UTV report from Coalisland in Co Tyrone, where the citizens are excited by the news that local hero Dennis Taylor has reached the final of the World Snooker Championship. He will be facing the most consistent player of the time, Steve Davis. It would turn out to be a memorable final which would thrill an entire nation as it went to the final frame.

Basking in good wishes from neighbours, Dennis's father Tommy Taylor discusses his son's chances and mentions that unless Dennis insists on him being there he won't be going to final. Touchingly, he explains that he has a photo of his late wife in the house and that she has been helping to guide the balls in for Dennis. He feels that he wants to keep watching the tournament that way. Taylor would go on to do his mother's memory proud and win the thrilling final after an epic comeback.
