Once a month, the members of Express Yourself Café host a disco for their members and friends at Belfast’s Black Box disco. Named Black Moon, the event offers a chance to socialise and dance to great music while allowing everyone to experience, enjoy and engage with the arts. The day kicks off with a arts and crafts drop in session. Later in the afternoon, the volume pumps up in the back room with music from DJs and an Elvis impersonator. The entertainment is provided by members of the Express Yourself Café who relish the chance to put on a show for their friends and family. This report by UTV's Sarah McCarron offers a glimpse at the activities and fun available at the monthly event. The report features interviews with some of the performers such as Trevor Lemon, DJ Twister and DJ Stevie B, and attendants, like Amanda and William, and who share their thoughts on the event and highlight the importance of having a social life. The events are made possible by the attendants and members of the Express Yourself group, with funding support from Belfast City Council and the National Lottery.

Express Yourself Café is a creative community of adults with learning disabilities. The group’s aim is to express themselves by using art, and to foster social connections and friendships.
