Description

Film by Archie Reid, showing the Flame Gasworks Museum in Carrickfergus. The gasworks began operation in 1855.

Sam Gault was a manager from 1967, until the gasworks closed in 1987.

Now the gasworks are a  museum in Carrickfergus. Sam explains how the gas was made and shows the different exhibits in the museum. It is the last gasworks on the island of Ireland.

Notes

The gasworks supplied Carrickfergus with gas made from coal from 1855 to 1967, it then supplied piped gas to Belfast until 1987. 

It opened as a visitor attraction in 2002.
