The Divis Street riots of September 1964 occurred after the RUC twice removed an Irish tricolour flag from the window of the offices of the Republican Party (defacto Sinn Fein). Ian Paisley and his supporters had threatened to storm the office if the police did not act to remove the flag. The riots continued for two nights and hundreds were injured and arrested.
