Description

This silent UTV report shows boxer Jim McCourt returning home from the Tokyo Olympics to a hero’s welcome. Despite the banner proclaiming the Jim was “as good as gold”, it was the bronze medal he had won after losing a very narrow decision in the light welterweight semi-final. However, Jim did gain the satisfaction of beating the eventual gold medal winner in a fight shortly afterwards.

He repeated his bronze medal in the European Championships a year later and was considered the top amateur in the world for a four-year period.
