This well thought out series of university television lectures which explored television's potential as an educational tool was first broadcast in the summer of 1962. From 2nd of July on every weekday evening between 10:40 and 11:15 pm, over a period of two months, seven groups of six broadcasts - forty two in all - were given by Professors and other members of the teaching staff at Queen’s University in Belfast.
A broad range of topics were covered including medicine, law, literature, music, physics, history and economics. The programme was a great success and earned the description ‘first University of the Air’.
