Description

This documentary was originally made as part of Channel 4's Cutting Edge documentary series. Produced by Mary Holland and Michael Whyte, Shankill is a powerful documentary that studies the history, the identity and the future of one of Belfast's most famous communities. Produced in 1994, community leaders such as May Blood, Jackie Redpath, Sally Paul and Billy Hutchinson reflect on the role the Shankill has played in their lives; Protestant working-class identity; the Troubles; the present realities of life in the community; and hopes and aspirations for the future during a time of deep change in Northern Ireland.

Narrated by one of Ireland's most distinguished journalists, Mary Holland, this documentary provides an invaluable insight into the Shankill.
