Description

This short film by Emily Mullan unfolds at sea and along the coast, where green landscapes meet the inky greys of the Irish Sea and the earthy browns of the Sperrin Giants – a series of wooden sculptures by artist Thomas Dambo. The film features Darach the Guardian watching over the land from atop Mullaghcarn Mountain; Ceoldán the Stargazer at Davagh Forest; and Nowanois, the Storytellers, pointing skyward over Gortin Glen. A sonorous piano note reverberates on the soundtrack as the giants emerge over the hilltops, reminding us of our own smallness while echoing Dambo’s intention for the works to embody the past, present and future.
