Description

Jane and Barney are ready for another journey! They travel to the north coast of County Antrim to see the Giant’s Causeway.

The Giant's Causeway, often referred to by the locals as the eighth wonder of the world and declared as Ireland's first World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1986, lies about 15 miles from Ballycastle. Jane and Barney enjoy spectacular views atop the cliffs and watch a variety of birds nesting - seagulls, kittiwakes and guillemots. Together with friends from school they learn about the myth of Finn McCool and the origins of Giant’s Causeway as well as about the real scientific origins of these rock formations. Jane and Barney also have a look at the site of the Spanish Armada’s Girona wreckage, Port Noffer, Portnaboe and meet Mr. Dick from the National Trust who tells them about the local flora. They also visit the famous Wishing Chair, learn about the Salmon of Knowledge and even join Alec the fisherman on a salmon fishing expedition.
