Mr Bick, whose company in Dunmurry makes life-rafts, is interviewed by Leslie Dawes on the life-rafts installed on the Ulster Prince. Modern life-rafts are fully equipped and designed to protect evacuated passengers from exposure but they will not completely replacedlife-boats. We also see a demonstration of the rafts in action.
Ulster Prince was the first of three new car ferries delivered to Coast Lines in 1966/67 to update the Irish Sea services of the Belfast Steamship Company. She was built by Harland and Wolff, launched in 1966 and with her sister, Ulster Queen took over the Liverpool-Belfast night service.
