Description

At City YMCA in Belfast, an audience gathers to hear the newly formed Ulster Orchestra. Conductor Maurice Miles talks about the establishment of this new permanent orchestra. The orchestra rehearse Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro.

The Ulster Orchestra was created as a full-time professional orchestra in 1966 and Maurice Miles was its first Maestro. Prior to this, he was conductor of the City of Belfast Orchestra in 1955-1956, and conductor of the Belfast Philharmonic Society from 1955 to 1967.
