Description

The Hann White family are settling into their new way of life in the bilingual community of Carntogher, south Derry.

Kelley Hann and Glenn White are a young couple with a keen sense of adventure. Presented with a unique opportunity to move to the rural community of Carntogher in County Derry, they leapt at the chance. With children Rowan and Oisín, and trusty pooch Thistle in tow, the family arrive on the County Derry mountainside to forge a new life, new business, new nature reserve and a slate of community projects - with not a word of Irish between them.
For children Rowan and Oisín, this means not only being the new kids at school, but also being the new kids at an Irish-medium school. For parents Kelley and Glenn, their new jobs establishing a nature reserve on the farm around their new home leaves them struggling to find time to learn the language. But as with all things in life, big challenges bring very fulfilling rewards.

Tá teaghlach Hann-White ag dul i dtaithí ar a saol nua i bpobal Ghaeilge Charn Tóchair i nDoire Theas.

Daoine a bhfuil meon na heachtraíochta acu ná Kelly Hann agus Glenn White. Nuair a chuala siad faoi dheis ar leith i bpobal tuaithe Charn Tóchair, i nDoire Theas, thapaigh siad é. Lena bpáistí, Rowan agus Oisín, agus a madadh dilis, Thistle, caithfidh siad treabhadh tríd an sneacht lena mbaile nua a bhaint amach ar leiceann sléibhe i gContae Dhoire. Cuireann siad tús le saol úr, gnó úr, tearmann dúlra úr, agus liosta fada tograí pobail – gan focal Gaeilge eatarthu!
I gcás na bpáistí, Rowan agus Oisín, fágann sé sin chan amháin gurb iad na páistí nua ar scoil, ach gurb iad na páistí nua ar Ghaelscoil. Agus dá dtuidmitheoirí, níl mórán ama acu le teanga a fhoghlaim agus iad gnóthach le tearmann dúlra a bhunadh ar an fheirm. Ach mar a deirtear, is fiú an tairbhe an trioblóid.

Notes

Producer Órfhlaith Ní Chearnaigh says, “This series will inspire both learners and those who want to learn, and show the realities of learning Irish for adults juggling a busy family life.”

The production team spent 18 months with the Hann Whites starting with an emotional departure from Devon in the rain. For director Gavin Halpin, the journey was an inspiring one, “It was privilege to be allowed to spend so much time with the Hann-White family and to document this huge chapter in their lives.”
