Description

A short silent clip of the unveiling of a sculpture in the quadrangle of Queen’s University Belfast. The sculpture of a reclining woman, by the celebrated artist F E McWilliam, was a donation to the university by Sir Lucius O’Brien. It was unveiled by Mrs Grant, wife of the Vice Chancellor. As well as Dr Michael Grant and Sir Lucius, Austin Brown, chairman of the university’s buildings was also present for the ceremony. Born in Banbridge in 1909, McWilliam enjoyed an acclaimed career and his studio contents were donated to a permanent exhibition in the town of his birth upon his death in 1992.
