One of the forgotten stories of the 1960s is that the
Queen’s car was attacked on a drive through Belfast city centre when a young
man tipped a breeze block from the top of some scaffolding at her car. It was
while travelling along Great Victoria Street that the block fell from the top
of a building undergoing works and it narrowly missed causing injury to those
inside the car, hitting the bonnet. A seventeen year old called John Morgan was
subsequently arrested and sentenced to four years in jail under the Treason
Act. This footage shows some of the aftermath of the attack, including the dent
to the car.
