This film provides a vivid account of the Wall 2 Wall group’s activities and reflections during a cross-cultural workshop in Cyprus. Led by participants like Jen and Dora, the group explores the complex dynamics of borders and identity within the buffer zone separating Greek and Turkish communities. The Wall 2 Wall group experience stark contrasts in daily life, such as the differing cultural aesthetics of local shops and the rigor of crossing borders, which contrasts sharply with the group's experiences at home.
Workshops and games held during the event encouraged participants to consider diverse perspectives on peace and conflict. They delved into themes like the interplay of positive and negative aspects of peace, learning from the experiences of those who grew up navigating the tangible and emotional weight of division. A particularly striking moment recounted involves a facilitator’s story of crossing three borders daily to attend school, sparking reflection on the deeply ingrained impact of walls and borders in shaping lives.
Amidst the learning, the group also found moments of joy and connection. Activities such as basketball games and shared meals helped foster bonds between participants from different backgrounds. Music emerged as a universal language, bringing together attendees for a spontaneous celebration that transcended linguistic and cultural barriers. These experiences underscore the Wall 2 Wall project’s mission to build understanding and bridge divides through dialogue, collaboration and shared humanity.
