Noel and Roy Spence, also known as the Spence Brothers, have been making films for over fifty years, with subjects ranging from crafty leprechauns, space creatures, Rockabilly Rebels, and Frankenstein's monster.

Their archives have inspired generations of Northern Irish filmmakers and in the summer of 2021, it was no different.

The PRONI and Nerve Centre teams, with the support of Northern Ireland Screen, brought together a group of talented filmmakers aged 12-16 to make horror films inspired by the Spence Brothers archives.

Over the course of five days, participants learned filmmaking techniques with our Making the Future facilitators and special effects make-up with artist Connie McGrath. They also took part in an acting workshop with Rob Crawford, from Bruiser Theatre Company to improve their acting skills.

The participants were split into four groups and each produced a one-minute horror film.

Upon completion, the films were launched at the Strand Cinema.
