The Olympics

The 2020 Summer Olympics opened in Tokyo last week with athletes from around the globe gathering for the famous games.
In the Digital Film Archive we have footage from celebrated Northern Irish athletes who have competed in the competition and won a medal for their country such as the household name, Mary Peters who won Gold in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. There is also UTV footage of when hockey player’s, Stephen Martin and Jimmy Kirkwood returned from the 1988 games in South Korea and of the boxer, Jim McCourt, preparing for the 1964 games where he would go on to win bronze.
