Description

Warning: Contains images of marine animals being prepared as food.

This beautiful film from Bertie McCullough's collection follows the intrepid diver on a voyage to beautiful Achill Island on Ireland's West Coast. Setting off before dawn, the team departs from the harbour, waving goodbye to well-wishers, onto the inky waters of the North Atlantic. Panoramic shots of the Mayo coastline are intercut with the divers getting their gear together, and a brave pup surveying the sea. McCullough brings his camera underwater, capturing breathtaking images of kelp forests, crustaceans, jellyfish and sharks that call the waters around Achill home. The water is just murky enough to let the viewer wonder if there is some shadowy behemoth just out of view. The divers catch some lobsters for dinner, and McCullough gathers some astonishing footage of a solitary jellyfish billowing through the water.
