Description

Eamonn Holmes reports for Good Evening Ulster on the decline of ballrooms across Northern Ireland. Over footage of some the exteriors and signage of the classic and most fondly-remembered dancehalls, Holmes informs us that just 16 years earlier there were 25 of them around the country but in 1986 there are just three. A combination of licensing laws surrounding the sale of alcohol and the Troubles has taken its toll, and we see inside a replacement for the ballrooms, a Belfast disco - 1986 style!

A representative of the Ballroom Association sets out how he would like to see ballrooms and discos co-exist going forward, and there is also discussion of one of the big casualties of the decline in venues, local showbands.
