Description

Northern Ireland’s Minister for Commerce, Brian Faulkner, visits the Du Pont factory in Maydown outside Derry. The DuPont factory had been the first in Europe for the multinational American firm and had opened in 1960. The chemical site originally manufactured Neoprene, a synthetic rubber, and continued in this line until the late 1990s when that arm of the business was closed down in Derry. However, the company still maintains other avenues of production today, including that of the incredibly strong synthetic fibre Kevlar.
