Description

Following the publication of the Lockwood Report, which proposed the new Northern Ireland university be located in Coleraine, a motorcade drove from Derry to Stormont in support of the new university being located in Derry City.

We see the procession go through various towns on the way until the mass of cars drives up the hill to Parliament buildings. Each car is labelled with the area it comes from.

Mayor Anderson, John Hume and Eddie McAteer lead the crowds to deliver a petition to PM Terence O’Neill

Notes

The Lockwood Committee, led by Sir John Lockwood was formed to look into the location of a second university in Northern Ireland. The report took two years and in the end, somewhat controversially, the decision was taken to place the university in Coleraine, rather than in Derry city.
