Description

Cardinal John Francis D’Alton, Bishop of Armagh, Primate of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland, died in Dublin in 1963 at the age of 80. His funeral procession began in Dublin and can be seen passing up through the border before arriving at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh were he lay in state. President De Valera and Taoiseach Lemass from the Republic of Ireland both attended the funeral which was hit badly by weather problems during the Big Freeze.
