Description

Labour Party leader Tom Boyd visits Lurgan, meeting with locals and being shown around by Vivian Simpson and Joe Johnson. 

Notes

Tom Boyd (April 1903 – 6 December 1991) was a shipyard worker, patternmaker, trade unionist and politician in Northern Ireland. He was elected MP for Belfast, Pottinger in 1958 and on election he became the leader of the Northern Ireland Labour Party, a post he held until finally losing his seat at the 1969 election.   

 

Vivian Simpson (23 August 1903 – 1977) was an NILP MP,  elected to Stormont in Belfast Oldpark in 1958. In March 1969, Simpson became the Deputy Chairman of Ways and Means and Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland House of Commons, holding this post until the prorogation of the Parliament in 1972.
