Description

These UTV interviews took place with two heavyweights of the British political system of the mid-60s with questions asked about the relationship of the devolved Northern Irish government to that of the UK government and parliament in Westminster.

Representing the Labour Party, just weeks away from their expected victory in the general election of 1964, was George Brown. He was the Deputy Leader of the party under Harold Wilson and was then the Shadow Home Secretary. He is also an interesting footnote in the English language. Following one appearance on a live television show he was referred to in the press the following day as having looked “tired and emotional”. The phrase remains in use today.

Representing the Liberal Party was its leader between 1956 and 1967, Jo Grimond.
