Description

Twin-turboprop aircraft built in Belfast.

Witness a 'Flying Shoebox' take to the skies in this promotional film extolling the virtues of Shorts Brothers' hugely versatile Skyvan.

Affectionately called 'The Shed' by pilots and crew, the no-frills Skyvan was designed to be a functional aircraft. It was used by both civilian and military operators, with various models produced between 1963-1986. Its longevity owed much to its proven track record and reputation as a tough, reliable craft. This film focuses on the Military Skyvan. As shown here, this adaptable craft was used in all manner of scenarios from casualty evacuation to paratrooper drops.
