Description

One Life: A Million Stories is a thoughtful reflection on the connections between memory and youth in Northern Ireland. The film features interviews between young people and older women, as well as contemporary footage of the New Lodge area of Belfast alongside archive footage during the Troubles, taken from the Northern Ireland Digital Film Archive.

During the interviews and through voiceover, the women discuss how they coped during the conflict, especially talking about the importance of community support and taking time away from Belfast for caravan holidays. They discuss some deeply affecting moments during the Troubles, and how that impacted their experiences of processing grief. The women also reflect on how education is more accessible for children growing up now, and how that leads to better jobs in the community.

There is a conversation between the two generations about the positives and negatives of growing up in the past, showing the importance of intergenerational sharing.
