Description

This film starts with a number of cut-offs of various Orangemen arriving and leaving Sandy Row Orange Hall. Prime Minister Terence O’Neill arrives at for a Grand Orange Lodge meeting. We see well-known Orange figures arrive at the hall including George Clark, the Grandmaster, and Martin Smyth – later a UUP politician. Inside, Lord Brookeborough is present.

After lunch, PM O’Neill addresses the audience on his call for an election at this time. He speaks on the threat of the IRA, comparing them to the Italian Mafia. Despite O’Neill’s manifesto promise to focus on the economy, the anniversary of the Easter Rising and the apparent resurgence of IRA activity impact on the election. He appeals to the leaders of the Orange Order to use their influence to maintain calm and restraint.
