Workers march to Stormont on 31 October 1962, protesting against the Westminster government’s acceptance of the Hall Report. Gerry Fitt and other Labour Party members meet them outside.
The Hall Report of 1962 rejected the Northern Ireland government’s request for pay subsidies and tax breaks designed to encourage investment into Northern Ireland.
The Westminster government was already subsidising the Northern Ireland economy but unemployment stood at 7% and H&W and Short Bros were in decline. The report was greeted with shock in Northern Ireland and demands were made for Prime Minister Lord Brookeborough to resign.
An Ulster Television Production.
