Description

Take a trip through Belfast City Centre in 1963 as top rally driver Eric Carlsson guides us through the streets – after taking his driving test. Carlsson from Sweden was a serious competitor at the time on the rally circuit of Europe, having won the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally the year before, and was also famous for being the husband of Stirling Moss’ sister, Pat, a famous rally driver in her own right. However, to be allowed to compete in a rally in England he discovered that he would have to complete a driving test in the UK. His friend and fellow rally driver, Paddy Hopkirk from Northern Ireland, had a driving school and suggested doing the test in Belfast. Jimmy Greene joined Eric in the car for an interview as he drove and, naturally, Eric passed his test.
