Description

The Great Migration is a web series of short films about key moments in Ulster-Scots history. In this episode, the focus is on the arrival of the Ulster-Scots in North America. Highlighting the arduous journey of five ships carrying Presbyterians to the New World, the narrative reveals how these settlers faced immense challenges, from treacherous seas to cultural resistance. It also explores the far-reaching consequences of their migration, particularly the transfer of theological and political principles that laid a foundation for the United States.

The programme touches on pivotal historical events such as the Williamite Wars and the overthrow of James II, connecting these to uprisings in New England and the reestablishment of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
