Description

In August 1961 Queen Elizabeth II made her first visit to Northern Ireland since 1954 when she arrived by boat in Carrickfergus harbour overlooked by its famous castle. With umbrellas out on a rainy day she was helped ashore by the Governor of Northern Ireland, Lord Wakehurst. After carrying out a number of engagements in Belfast, the royal visit of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh would end the following day when they left to re-join the Royal Yacht Britannia from Bangor pier.
