Description

Lesser Spotted Ulster comes this time from County Monaghan. Joe Mahon looks closely at two small villages, Emyvale and Mullan. The first inhabitants of Emyvale were of the Ui Meith tribe, hence the name of Emy. However in the 8th century the McKenna Clan arrived and by the 12th century they had established an independent little 'tuath' or kingdom in North Monaghan. Joe Mahon gets lucky and receives an honorary citizenship of Emyvale and therefore gains a privileged access to the town, its people and their wisdom.

We will also visit a local duck feather factory called Silver Hill, go fly-fishing on Emy lake, learn a bit of fly tying and take a walk around the grounds of Castle Leslie.
