This footage staged for the cameras was not for an open-air production of Othello. It seems that the producer just took advantage of the scenery for the cameras. The actual production it was advertising has now been identified as being that put on by the Belfast Drama Circle and was staged at the King George VI Youth Centre in February 1963.
In an era when the lead in Othello was often taken by non-ethnic actors with the practice of "blackface" (see the famous Laurence Olivier version) the Drama Circle were much more forward thinking and the role went to Queen's student Max Enchill, who hailed from Ghana. Other roles included Dennis Scott as Iago, Valerie Lilley as Desdemona and television presenter Denis Tuohy played Cassio. The producer was Roy Alcorn.
