Just two days after John Lennon made his famous "rattle your jewellery" comment at the Royal Variety Show in front of the Queen Mother, The Beatles arrived in Ireland for the first of two shows on the island. After playing Dublin on 6 November 1963 they travelled north the following day and were stopped by an Ulster Television crew crossing the border at Newry for this playful interview. Reporter Jimmy Robinson obviously wanted to get the scoop of their first interview! The footage also contains shots of their adoring fans queuing outside the Ritz Cinema in Belfast, hoping to catch a glimpse of them, along with footage of the Beatles inside the venue before the concert - and of John Lennon filming the moment on his 8mm movie camera.
