Description

Eamonn Holmes reports for UTV from a major video tape trade show. It has been put on by local wholesalers Solomon and Peres and was quite a coup at the time, representing the first occasion when such an event had been held outside London, with sixteen top distributers displaying their range of titles. Solomon and Peres spokesperson, Les Patterson, talks to Eamonn about the event and a distributor from RCA/Columbia discusses the promotional push for their big new title, the film Tootsie.

There are lots of shots of posters and promotional materials for the film. Despite this, however, a local retailer complains that his job has been made more difficult by the general lack of Point of Sale materials for most releases. Eamonn then reveals that the cost of renting a video is likely to soon increase to £2 from the current average of £1.50. There are good shots of the latest children’s titles including animated Spider-Man, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal and the most recent big archive release from Disney, Alice in Wonderland. Fans of 1980s pop culture will enjoy this glimpse back into the formative years of home entertainment retail.
