In 2024, members of the Wall 2 Wall group travelled to Cyprus to experience life on the Mediterranean island and connect with young Cypriots. Like their Cypriot peers, the Wall 2 Wall group comprises young people from a divided society. This shared experience provided a unique perspective as they reflected on life in a country with a hard border.
In this group interview, the Wall 2 Wall members discuss their experiences in Cyprus, drawing parallels between the island's divisions and those in their home of Northern Ireland. Using question cards to guide their conversation, they offer insightful reflections on issues such as reliance on peace walls, religiously directed education, and growing up in divided communities. Their observations on how language and education perpetuate divisions are particularly thought-provoking.
Springboard, founded in 1992 in Belfast and Tallaght, Dublin, has worked with over 14,000 individuals through its innovative programmes. The charity addresses the challenges of societal division, inspiring lasting change, particularly among youth who will shape future narratives of peace.
