Description

Cameron Turley’s powerful film concludes Springboard’s 2023 Our Lives, Our Legacy project which commemorated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. Widely regarded as a pivotal moment in Northern Ireland’s history, the Agreement marked the end of decades of conflict. Collaborating with the charity Springboard and Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive, the film gives voice to young people reflecting on peace, division and reconciliation. Their words, interwoven with archival footage, delve into how the legacy of the past shapes their present and future. The film documents the Our Lives, Our Legacy project’s closing event in Belfast’s Crumlin Road Gaol in September 2023, where participants gathered to share their experiences, thoughts and aspirations for a society still grappling with its history. The young people created an exhibition within the Crumlin Road Gaol, meticulously recreating the experiences of The Troubles, the Peace Process and the Referendum’s voting day. The event concluded with a reception where the young people performed music together and shared reflections with the attendees on their involvement with the project.

Springboard, established in 1992 in Belfast and Tallaght, Dublin, has engaged with over 14,000 individuals through its innovative programs. The charity addresses societal divisions, inspiring lasting change, particularly among youth who will shape future narratives of peace.
