Description

Gerry Kelly welcomes his guests and the studio audience to explore the social class structure. The guests are Lord Fitt of Bell’s Hill, Lord Mountcharles, Richard Needham 6th Earl of Kilmorey and Sir Jack Swinson. The studio audience members include Roma Tomelty, John Hewitt, Barbara Adair, Fr Pat Buckley, Dr Ellen Douglas and others.

In the first part of the programme, Kelly refers back to the topic discussed in the previous episode, corporal punishment, and the viewers reactions to it. Regular Kelly’s Eye segment offers some of these views. The discussion moves on to the topic of the day – social classes. What is the difference between working, middle and upper class? How do you define class? What’s the social class structure like in Northern Ireland? These are just some of the questions that the guests and the studio audience discuss.
