Description

Kelly’s People ‘On Tour’ comes from the Armagh Planetarium & Observatory.

Kelly meets Terence Murtagh, the director of the planetarium, who tells a bit more about the planetarium’s mission to educate, entertain and share knowledge about space and astronomy.  Kelly gets a guided tour by the planetarium’s own lecturers John Flynn, John Tate and Martin Ratcliffe and in the theatre talks to an astronomer, writer and TV presenter Heather Couper known for popularising science and her programme ‘The Stars’. Other guests joining the discussion on astronomy are astronomer Nigel Henbest, sci-fi fans and authors, amateur astronomers, an astrologist, members of the Six of One society and a man with impressive memory skills. The programme also features a performance by X Appeal & Gary Holey featuring Tony the robot.

Notes

The programme includes an excerpt from 1938 radio programme ‘War of the Worlds’ written by H.G.Wells and directed by Orson Wells 00:11:14 – 00:12:03
