Description

World featherweight boxing champion Barry McGuigan is back in Belfast for the first defence of his title. This report by Jackie Fullerton for Good Evening Ulster begins with images from his triumphant reception in Belfast during the summer before focusing on the fight ahead.

Barry is interviewed about his preparations, as is his trainer Eddie Shaw. McGuigan's opponent is the unbeaten American Bernard Taylor, while helping McGuigan to prepare is adviser Gerald Hayes, a man who himself fought Taylor twice. American Jay Edson praises McGuigan and says that everyone in the world of boxing is currently talking about him.

Sadly, McGuigan announced that it would probably be his last fight in Belfast, due to crowd size limitations. But he certainly bowed in style, granting his home fans one last glimpse of him winning as he successfully defended the title.
