Description

Kate Smith reports for Good Evening Ulster on a bizarre charitable effort in the town of Carrickfergus. Alfie Thompson, with full planning permission from the local council, has constructed a tall pole, with a small platform on top, in front of the famous local castle. His intention is to spend a week on top of the platform non-stop to raise funds for charity.

Reading material and a radio are his only companions and a piece of green tarpaulin can be slung over a frame to keep any rain off. However, when asked what will happen when nature calls, his answer is vague: he 'hopes' that a toilet can be provided to bring up to the platform!
