Description

Ivan Little reports for the UTV evening news programme, Good Evening Ulster, on a bizarre world record attempt at Glenmore Activity Centre in Lisburn. There he finds local fireman, Earl Bird, as he hopes to raise £13,000 for Multiple Sclerosis by setting a new world record for continually yodelling. We see Earl outside mobbed by children, yodelling away as he enters the centre. Inside we see him playing pool before a crowd, yodelling as he does so. He is allowed one five minute break per hour during which he takes milk and honey and we see a team of his firefighter colleagues turn up to wish him well.

During one of the breaks he speaks to Ivan who asks him how he is faring. He admits that he has pains in his stomach and a bit of a sore throat. When Ivan suggests that it’s not a very interesting thing to do Earl admits, ‘Well, it is quite boring.’ However, he suggests that the good cause keeps him going and reveals that he first took an interest in yodelling after watching Tarzan films.
